I’m sure you all have been in my shoes ! My school has been going through modernization. al of my teaching supplies have been in storage. School started this Wednesday…I got the keys Sunday and 25+ years of stuff all in boxes piled all over the room!

Slide3

My daughter got stuck with me for hours. Thank goodness for DVD players. It’s amazing how many Barbie movies a 5 year old can watch!

Slide2

I swear it got worse as the days went on! Where do I put all this stuff in my new (smaller.. less storage) beautiful room?

Slide4

I proceeded to open over 200 boxes in two days!

Slide5

My poor Chicka Boom Boom tree has seen better days! I did get all my stuff put away but not a lot of decorating just yet! I’ll put more pictures of first day this afternoon! Oh did I mention Back to School Night was Wednesday evening! I’m off to school to begin to organize all the stuff I shoved into those pretty cupboards!

I hope all your school years are off to a great start! Kim

Slide1

I’m unpacked, unorganized and teaching on! I’m not ready to show off my new digs yet but it is getting better! I thought I would share a quick blog and show you a few things we have accomplished!

Yesterday we did our first mini book called Kindergarten. (freebie) It was introduced as a pocket chart story which we read and chanted! Now being that I am in a brand new classroom with all new technology this should have been an easy task. All the children had to do is write the  word “I” and color. Well my “eno board projector does not work so it has to be sent back to the manufacturer ( Lord only knows how long that will take!) It’s not that big of a deal because I have never had one but I am excited to learn. Only problem is I have document camera but no projector to show on the screen. So I modeled everything “old school”. We drew the letter “I” in the air, wrote on our friends backs, I drew giant “I’s” with the children on my dry erase board. (Oh did I mention we have one Xerox machine in the whole school and that’s broken too so I could not enlarge the text for the kids to see either) Lastly I completed my book writing “I’s” on the lines provided.  EASY RIGHT?  Well I was busy walking around the room telling all “To remember to write their “I’s” and if you notice in the pictures above some actually drew eyeballs and did not write any letter “I’s” . In fact 5 children's books only had eyeballs no letter “I”! This is a first… I just had to laugh!

Slide3

I did get my September quilt up Friday afternoon.

Slide4

I just love their first drawings of themselves!

Slide5

I made a new word wall… yes it is up high! The good thing is you can see it all around the room. Oh yes and the word “I” is up we will definitely be reviewing!

Slide6

We started earning RAINBOW FISH BOWLS right away!

Slide7

I’m still working on my Calendar Wall (I’ll post pictures when it is done) but I did make a new addition in honor of the Common Core.. Zero the Hero is now counting with tens grids too.

Slide2

I just picked up these cute pictures from Costco this afternoon. I took pictures of all my kiddos in  a beach hat and Hawaiian lei. They came out so cute. Did you know Costco now makes wallet size and they fit perfectly in the Lakeshore book box pocket.

Have a great day tomorrow!

I have all my pictures developed so we are busy learning our Good Morning Song .The tune is to: Have you ever seen a Lassie. After we know all our friends faces we move onto name cards instead of photos.

Slide2

Our first Circle map! We did this activity whole class. I had a bunch of pictures in a baggy ready for when they made the suggestion! The next day the children drew their own with me to take home!

Slide3

During Math we did “Rainbow writing” on our names. Then we cut our names into separate letters. Next we put them back together on strip of construction and counted how many letters are in our names. The following day we graphed “How many letters in our name” on a floor graph. This weekend I glued them to this big poster. We emphasized you may have 5 letters in your name but it is only ONE word!

Slide4

Tomorrow we begin our Jazzy Math Journals. We will  do an easy beginning beach sort!

Our names are special too! We read the book Alphabet Adventure by Audrey Wood. Then we made our own missing letter from our names.

Alphabet Mystery Frame

Slide9

We made Yummy Friendship Fruit!

Slide4

Today we celebrated the 20th day of school! Zero the Hero brought us whistles and we made this cute little bear out of the number 20. This fun idea came from my good friends at Kinderlit!

Slide5

We added writing to our art!

Slide3

Over the past 3 weeks we have completed these pages in our ABC Art Book. I complete the writing a little later when our fine motor is a bit better.

Slide7

This idea has been around a long time from Dr. Jean. I have not made it for a few years. So I decided it would be fun to make it this year. My kids love to kiss their brains in the morning!  We read and kiss everyone’s name as I take attendance in the morning! We made this book during our “I Am Special Week.”

Slide6

Everyone had such a good time stamping tons of kisses on their papers! Here are the patterns for the cover and class pages.

Last week we had a great time making our Brown Bear Bags and mini books.  One of my children said “Miss Jordano you should have your picture as the teacher in our Brown Bear book”. So I did exactly that… my picture is on the “I see a  teacher” page!

Slide2

During Literacy centers we made our first t.p. roll activity to practice our sight words. The writing paper gets rolled up and goes inside of the t.p. roll. The little bear is glued on the front! Slide3

We painted circle bears and discussed how these circles are flat shapes not 3D! Lots of fun ways to get Common Core in!Slide4

We are busy working on or rhyming skills along with reading and sight words. This fun little book is easy to read and  helps us practice rhyming. Perfect for our Readers Workshop boxes! All of these ideas plus a few more activities (except for the circle bears) are in my new packet on TPT called

A “Beary Fun Little Pack”.

 Slide2

This week we went Batty In kindergarten! All my Literacy center activities had a “Batty theme”. We learned how to draw a bat and then write a sentence about the bat.

Slide9

We made a fun mini book and  learned the new word “in”! I put stuffed bats at all the tables as decorations.

Slide7

Slide1

We are working on our rhyming words with the “at” family. We they had completed writing their at words they were rolled up inside their tp roll bat to take home.

Slide3

Slide6

The secret word was bat of course!

My kiddos complete a Secret Sight Word each week. The bat I added for fun but all the other words we do are of from sight word list.

Slide4

We also worked on out rhyming by stamping the “at” family! If your children like to stamp I think I finally have a way to keep the stamps somewhat organized! I bought 3 plastic nails and screw organizers from Home Depot. They were less than 4dollars each. I put two circle sticky dots in each section with a, b written in Sharpie, c,d etc. the lids close tight and so far no spilling. I gave each group of two children one box of lowercase letter stamps. They all have the same color stamp pads. (So no mixing colors) Next month I’ll replace and add a different color stamp pad. Each week we Stamp and Write  a new set of words.

Slide10

We made the BBBB, BBBB, BBBB Bat Book. Each child gets a set of 5 friends photos to chant the beginning sounds of their friends names. We will keep them in our book boxes. I let each child take the page with their photo/bat and then choose 4 more friends to put in their booklet.

Slide13

Today we completed the Bats Like  to Eat… folded booklet. We have red lots of fiction and fact books about bats this week. We learned lots of interesting facts. Different types bats like to eat different foods.

Slide5

Friday is cooking day! We completed our recipe for Oreo Bats! They were a big hit! Of course its hard to go wrong with Oreos!

Slide14

During Math I introduced measurement with our Batty Measurement Page for our Jazzy Math Journals!

Slide11

Right before we went home today we “flew” outside with our giant bat bracelets! I just posted the pattern for this big guy, the batty rhymes, bat mini book, the BBBB Bat book pattern, Bats like to eat.. at my TPT store called Going a “Little Batty” Literacy Center  Fun Pack!

Winter is here! Well in just about every state except here in Sunny Southern California! So I thought I’d bring a little touch of snow to my classroom when we return!. My daughter made this darling snow globe as a holiday card at her after school program. I think it is so cute so I’m going to make them when we return. I’m going to make a few changes:

1. A thumb print sun

2. The poem “5 Little Snowmen Fat” on the back!

3. Then my kiddos can write “Let it snow” or “We love snow” on the front instead of Happy Holidays. Slide4

Slide5

Five little snowman pattern link ! Cut a blue circle the same size as the white poem. Children use their handprint to make snowmen, and after they are dry they decorate with colored markers. For fun put white glitter on for the snow balls. I plan on using their thumbprint  in yellow for sunshine! I’ll post pictures when they are done.
