Going a Little “Birdie” Plus paper Mache Pattern freebie!

These are our paper mache roosters and hens for open house.Slide6

They are made out of foam core and then hot glued to a dowel and wooden block. We use paper towels (The thick school kind) and starch to paper mache. I get a parent volunteer to cut them out for me. Thank you so much Mr. Tello!  Next we paint them a solid color then add polka dots the next day. I have my parent volunteers add felt beaks and crowns with hot glue. The feathers on the sides are my kiddo’s hands cut from construction paper.Here is the pattern for the Hens and Roosters! Enjoy

We made these darling little napkin books last week. I had them prepped for Valentines week but the the week was too short to get them done. Napkin books are great activities for your independent literacy centers.

These are our darling “Thing one –25” hats! My team partner saw them from a friend and I had to make them too!

We wore them all day in celebration of Read Across America. During MATH we practiced addition using our hats. For example: we added Thing 6 and Thing 4 and found Thing Ten! We decomposed Thing 15 into Thing 10 and Thing 5!

After lunch in honor of Dr. Seuss we practiced rhyming with our graham cracker and blue frosting erasable-edible boards. So Fun! (We used a popsicle stick for a writing tool).

Has Your Leprechaun Moved In Yet? Plus a Fun St. Patrick's Day Freebie!

During literacy centers this week my little leprechauns played this fun sight word game. Each child picks a friend to play with and they take turns spinning, reading and coloring the word on the coin in the leprechaun’s pot. The first friend to fill their pot with gold is the winner! Click here for this activity.

Bugs and Bunnies plus some Freebies!

For the past two weeks we learned about living things that come from eggs. For cooking we made these yummygrasshoppers!

I saw this darling butterfly on Pintrist and had to turn it into a recipe for our classcookbook!

Friday we went on a “Living things that come from eggs” hunt. (Plus a few jellybeans and chocolates!) All 125 kids wore their Spring Bunny hats. So much fun!

This darling quilt is from the TK class next door and the one below is from my class. The Children’s hands are the wings.

We added jewels for the bunny nose and the center of the flower on the nest so the quilt really sparkles. The bunny is their handprint. Happy Spring!

It’s Pet Week! Some Write the Room Fun and a Freebie!

We celebrated pets during our literacy centers. My kiddos had fun sewing our “pet pouch”. We put our writing  booklet about pet homes inside.Slide2

We took out all the words from our old pet mini book and had the children write sentences with questions. For example: Where is my cat? Do snakes hiss? Are you my turtle? On the last page they drew their favorite pet.

This darling Kitty cat is the cover to the booklet.

On Friday we made a new recipe Loli-Pups I did not have ant raisins or chocolate chips so we used left over M&M’s! They we “Woof-a-licious”.

We have made some changes to our Write the Room. My team and I changed it into a kind of scavenger hunt each month. Eight words are posted in different places around the room. Four are sight words and four are themed words.

After they have found all eight words and written them on their paper,  they flip the paper over and write sentences using those 8 words!Slide6

We always wear our themed headbands to write the room. I’m a little obsessed I think I have some for every month except November. I have yet to find some cute turkey headbands! Even the boys love the butterflies and flowers! I just love Kindergarten!!!

Hi Friends! I’m really excited about my Bookmaking session at I Teach K this year. I haven’t done a make and take in a long time. I’m busy getting 100 plus packets together. There is no room left in my den! Now I have to figure out do I ship it all or buy another suitcase?

If you are attending all you need to pack is scissors, markers, glue, stapler and a hole punch. I’ll supply the rest!

SDE’s Blogger Bash was an exciting and CRAZY place! So many Bloggers you could barely move! I took the opportunity to get pictures with my friends Kathleen, Shelly, Crystal, Shari and my new friend Julie Brinkley a darling SDE presenter.Slide2
These dazzling girls Christy and Tammy from Fluttering Through First Grade put on an amazing presentation at the TPT conference. I learned so much! Now I know how behind I am AHHH!Slide4
We did make time for yummy dinners at the Venetian with my friends Deanna, Kim, and DeeDee. I love these talented girls so willing to share ideas, advice and put up with all my crazy questions!  Dee Dee you have the patience of a saint to put up with me!  Next year I promise to have all this blogging thing mastered! Back from a beautiful relaxing trip to Hawaii!
 My blog is getting a new look so please excuse the "messyness" while being updated! All my past blogs seemed to have moved all over the place and many links do not work yet so I need to see how to fix them but I'm getting there! I hope you like my new design thanks to  The Cutest Blog on the Block Custom Designs.


Here is my New Froggy's Fantastic Sight Word Activity Pack.
I shared these sight word activities in Chicago last March and now it's finally ready. Here is a sample of a some of my activities.


Pinwheel fun!
 Just write sight words on these mini pinwheels 
and blow it's so easy!


Next children write the words on their froggy sheet.
 They can even use their words to write sentences on the back.


Mirror reflection sight word fun. My kiddos loved this one. 
They hold up a mirror and read their words in the reflection.

A Few "Oldies but Goodies" for the First Days Back to School!

The Boo Boo Binder! 
I have been doing this little activity for years. When a child gets a"Boo Boo" they can go to the Boo, Boo Binder and write about it, draw a picture and put a band-aide on their injury. I have been collecting all the little travel lotions from hotels I visit and then I put a label on them and keep them in a basket next to my Boo Boo Binder.



The I Am Special Glyph!
This glyph is so simple and great for the first week of school. My paper doll and clothes are traced for the children to cut out. The clothes are decorated with dot paints.  I'll be heading back to get my classroom ready next week...Oh summer goes by so fast!

Back to School! Time to Get Organized!

This is what my classroom looked like when I walked in last week!


Last year I only had two days to move back into my room from a remodel... I did a lot of shoving of everything! This year I'm really trying to start out organized! So far I've bought new Readers Workshop tubs and made new crayon labels for my leveled books. 


I'm also busy updating all my book tub labels to match my book class book tubs. Love, love, Avery design and print on line! Makes label making so easy. I'm going back to class today so much to do!

Birthday Fun and Jazzing Up My Literacy Center Tables!

A few weeks a go I posted a picture of the Eric Carle themed crayons I found at Target. This is how I packaged them to give to my kiddos on their birthdays! I added bubbles and either a ring or little animals with parachutes. All 25 are made and ready for the first class birthday. Check one thing off my list..


This is just sample of a birthday crown for a parent to see. I will send my birthday crowns home with glue, glitter and a class list on back to school night for a parent to decorate for me.


Ok, I have been spending a little too much time on Pinterest. I see these paper lanterns are everywhere! I even saw them camping this weekend on tents! So I thought I would try them out in my class with my table signs. I think they really look cute :) Now I 'm off to school to finish up. Have a Happy Sunday!
