The school year officially began for my kiddos on Wednesday. Here is one project we actually finished! We used tiny macaroni, beads and jewels to decorate our names. The following day we made a floor graph of how many letters in our names.( Friday I hung it up). I had  wonderful parents who volunteered to stay our first day the whole morning. Our day was done the at 10:50 because Kinder has Back to School Night the first day. I love meeting all the parents and telling them about our program. Kindergarten is AWESOME!

I decided last week it was time for new Classroom Helper Cards. I love how Melonheadz makes everything you create pop! They are at my TPT shop just click on the link classroom above!

Tomorrow we will make our first mini-book Kindergarten.Wewill work on our sight words "See and I". I made little reading pointer sticks out of tongue depressors. They will go in a pocket inside the front cover. The pocket is a 1/2 envelope. So easy!

Here is our Chart to practice the steps to making our
mini books. Happy Holiday Monday!

I am finally coming up for a little air. It's been a very busy start to the school year! I'm so sorry for not getting my weekly posts up. But I think we are on a roll now! Here are a few things we have been up to. We painted our "BEARY" favorite colors last week and decorated a picture frames for our masterpieces!

Two weeks ago we created these adorable self portraits I saw on pinterest from My friend Julie Lee's clssroom. They are adorable and floating from the ceiling all around my room!

Readers workshop is in full swing! We began with how to be a "Book Lover." We practiced first on the rug together carefully turning pages and progressed to  groups of four friends at book baskets. We have been building our Stamina! You can find this amazing unit at my dear friend Kim Adsit's TPT store!

This past week we got our own book tubs and began "Reading to Self." We are up to anywhere from 6-9 minutes depending on the day! In our book boxes we have 3 class made mini books, our poetry journals and one picture book! My Poetry Journals can be found at my TPT store. Well I'm actually off to my classroom this morning to set up for our first week of independent Literacy Centers! Wish me luck!

I have had so many requests for this little pumpkin life cycle sequence. My copy was so old and hand drawn. I finally have a brand new crisp black-line available HERE!
(I did have to hand draw the stem for the front I could not find a clip art that would work)

We are going to end the month with some Frankenstein fun. I pinned this cute mini paper plate guy from Pinterest a few weeks ago. I turned him into a counting and ordering activity that my kiddos will complete this week. I glued a pocket to the back for them to put their numbers in after putting them in order.
We will put this poem on the the pocket.
Monsters MUNCH, Monsters CRUNCH!
Monsters like to COUNT for lunch!
This week we will describe Frankenstein on our circle maps at literacy centers and do some monster labeling too.

This darling sewing activity seemed to be all over Pinterest The great thing is they can't mess it up! My kids loved it. We wrote one of our Poerty Journal Poems  on the back.

Last but not least have you made your Jack-O-Happy Pie?

We are busy planning our Long Ago days in Kindergarten.
We celebrate the day before Thanksgiving break.
All Kindergarten classes participate together.
We are fortunate here in CA that the weather is usually great.
Yet in the event of rain our kids go from classroom to classroom freely.  Below are a few of the activities we do together.

Native American sand paintings

We use salt and powdered paint!

Every hunter needs an arrow made with
a straw and paper triangles!

Next they are off to hunt for dinner!
This is one of the most popular centers.

What's a Thanksgiving without a turkey!

Long ago fishing was a great way to get food for dinner.
We fished for letters.

Let's make some beautiful macaroni pattern necklaces.

 Tortilla teepees made with tortillas
milk and food coloring. YUM!

We also make butter, log cabins from pretzel sticks, plant corn seeds and make clay pots. Parent volunteers run all the activities and do the face painting. We are all thankful to be at such a wonderful school!

They look so fun hanging in our classroom.
We have been talking about how the Pilgrims lived
 in their new world.

We wrote about what the Pilgrim boys and girls
did to help their families.

Tom Turkey Says
"Eat cake..or cookies or pizza!"
 "Not me!"

I saw these fun turkeys on First Grade Parade's blog.
They are super easy to make!
I created a turkey's can, have, are ...paper plus
a writing paper to go with it.

This is always one of my favorite bulletin boards!
It always makes me smile.

I love to see all the people and things they are thankful for!

They end up really looking like my kiddos.
Enjoy your holiday!
Big hugs to all the Veterans in my life and yours.

Who can resist the Gingerbread Man during the holidays!
We have read 7 different versions, tasted gingerbread cookies and made this darling glyph. Get the Glyph Key Here.

On Thursday we had our 3rd Grade Buddies come to kinder to make this great project by Tangled up in Teaching. This activity goes along with Jan Brett's version of the The Gingerbread Baby.
It was perfect for a 3rd grader to help their kinder partner. Lots of cutting and a graph to complete.

My friend Heidi has a darling new Gingerbread Man
book with a CD and lots of  fun songs!

I got my SantaReindeer and Elves up! My room definitely has a holiday feel with these cuties hanging around.

We were busy little elves last week. I had three amazing mommies who got all my kiddos hands painted for their wreaths in one morning! Tonight I added a dowel, ribbon bows and gold for their names.  (This is why I'm working on a post at 11:00 at night) All we have to do is wrap! The picture on the left is our wrapping paper made with paint and cookie cutters. Our card is also an ornament from their "little angel."

Here are two versions of  gingerbread men and hand print quilts. One is from Kinder and the other from Tk!
Off to bed for me...

This last week before Winter break has been busy!
Santa even came on Friday to wish us a Merry Christmas.

We finished up out travels "Around the World" visiting Germany by making Tannonbaum hats and visiting Sweden to enjoy St. Lucia day.

We sewed stockings from the USA and finished up our covers for
Santa Goes Shopping! and reindeer books.

During our holiday party we made reindeer food. (Oatmeal , birdseed and a few dashes of glitter to light the way for Santa's reindeer to find our homes!)

We also decorated our Tannonbaums from Germany.(trees)
Yes... they are a bit messy but oh so yummy!

During our party we also made we these darling snowman ornaments. The have been all over Pinterest for years and I finally made them. We painted their hand-prints on Tuesday so on Friday they would be all dry and ready to decorate with colored sharpies. Each one so unique and darling.
Wishing you all a joyous, family filled, RESTFUL vacation!

OK... so it was 80 degrees last Monday... but we have had rain and chilly weather this weekend! At school we still celebrate winter with lots of  "chilly" activities. Here is our new winter quilt.
I went back to school yesterday to hang it up!

On Friday we worked on our  winter tree for our science journal. The little thumbprint owls came out really cute. The snow was made with  the dish sponge seen here. I makes great snow and its not messy.

We will paint penguins and snowmen this month for our
Jazzy Math Journals. The  polar bear will be for our Science Journals.

Last week we caught up on Oo is for owl and Pp
is for penguins in our ABC Art Books.

This coming Friday we will make yummy tortilla snowflakes.
The recipe wil go in our Kindergarten Cookbooks!
"Brrr" I think I better go turn on the heater! Enjoy your Sunday.

Its that time of year again where we begin to transform our room into a farm. We are busy learning all about what goes on at a farm. From the language used for farm animals like cattle and fowl. To terms like agriculture and produce. There is a lot to know if you are a farmer!

Did you know frozen peas are much better to feed ducks than bread? We learned that bread is like candy for ducks. We wrote about the facts we learned and rolled them inside these little T.P. roll ducklings.

Pigs are my favorite farm animal. There are so many fun facts to write about piggies. We love to show off our writing skills on these crafty projects!

Our Open House was very early this year. (I liked it better in May) But what ever time of year we still have a wonderful night! These little sheep were made with a cork and white paint.
I saw it on Pinterest in several spots but I added some of my own details. We used this for the cover of one of our ordering number booklets. (Coming soon)

I love how these little chicks were made
with a fork and yellow paint!
They made a great cover for our

I think the these cows are one of my favorites.
The nose is 3D rolled like a t.p. tube.

These watermelons contain the facts to 10 in a little
10's frame booklet.
The pockets are the small paper plates painted and cut in half.
We glued black beans to the front for seeds.

My hayride board is not new but it always turns out adorable!

You can get the patterns for my fruits and veggies in
I have more Farm Fun on its way.
So check back soon!
